Classes

Yoga is a Spiritual Practice and NOT a Religious Practice. A Spiritual Practice is one that improves our Mental Health, our Physical Health and Spiritual Health. It helps us to be the best person that we can be, to live our life in the best way that we can, to respect ourselves and others, to respect and do our best in the world we live in, in our family, our community and with friends, colleagues and strangers.

Yoga classes

I start everybody with the important basic Yoga Asanas. With each class I correct and develop ones practice according to their individual strengths, weaknesses and level of practice suitable for each person. I teach Beginner’s, Intermediate and Advanced classes. I have had many people coming to my classes over the years that thought they had done Yoga before. However more often than not it turns out that what they did before showed little if any resemblance to the true and traditional practice of Yoga.  Instead this is the so called “modern westernised version of Yoga” which should not even be called Yoga.

My classes run from 1-2 hours weekly depending on the selected class chosen at an agreed day and time. Classes MUST be booked in advance.

Pranayama and Meditation

This is a very special and beautiful class. It is excellent for the health of the mind. It brings about inner peace, inner silence and contentment. The mind becomes much stronger, it develops memory, mental focus, concentration. The intellect is sharpened and intuition is developed. Different kinds of Pranayama (breath control/breathing techniques) are practiced first. A wonderful sense of calmness and relaxation is brought about. One’s mindset changes as the mind becomes clear and balanced.

  • Tamas: all kinds of dullness, negativity, heaviness and depression lift. This in Yoga is regarded as the “Tamasic” state of the mind (Tamas means heavy).  A weight is lifted off the mind. The mind is brought to the “Sattvic” state, (Sattva means balance, clarity and mental focus).

  • Rajas: this is the “Rajasic” state of the mind. Rajas is when the mind is constantly moving, thinking, worrying, fear, anxiety and stress. One finds it hard to make decisions, to think clearly, to understand clearly and to see clearly. Through Pranayama Rajas continues to get less and the Sattvic (balanced) state of the mind becomes more and more.

Meditation
Meditation is a practice to control the mind, to look inwardly, to bring focus to our inner being, to find our inner strength, inner peace, inner silence and the power that lies within us all. We all have inner strength and power within us however we are not always aware of it and usually don’t know how to find it or how to do this. The practice of Meditation teaches us how to find our inner peace and our inner strength. Meditation is very beautiful and very powerful.

Meditation and Vedic Chanting

In addition to the practice of Meditation, Vedic Chanting is also practiced. The power of Chanting is incalculable, you get lots of great spiritual energy, it clears the mind. Peace and stability of mind, body and spirit shine through. Pranayama - Meditation & Vedic Chanting are all parts of Yoga also known as some of the limbs of Yoga.
